Ngāti Tumatauenga is the name of the NZ Army and it acknowledges that the Army is one family of people bound together by the ethic of service to our country, mutual trust and camaraderie. As one people the Army is one tribe.
Ngāti Tumatauenga reflects the Army’s unity; it has seen them develop their own New Zealand military cultural practices and ceremonies guided by Tikanga Māori on the one hand and British and European custom on the other. We explore this through the experiences of the new recruits as they attempt to forge a career in the NZ Army.
The fly on the wall treatment allows us to join these recruits in their experiences and efforts and gives us a sense of the challenges they face and what they are going through. We share these experiences with them through 13 riveting half hour programmes following recruits from sign on, through boot camp to graduation and acceptance into the Ngāti Tumatauenga tribe.
